Where do you live, Vimmi? I live in NJ and haven't heard this yet... I agree that it would be so hard to make so many things without curry leaves. :(

I hope it's not true. Is that the reason, I am not finding it in my local indian stores? I am not going to clip the leaves of my precious curry leaves plant. My plant is still little...Oh No!!

I heard that too yesterday and it's true. How am I going to cook without it?

I hope the ban is removed soon!

Yes. This is certainly true for the SF Bay Area. Most leaves come from Hawaii and Kerala, and they have been banned due to a pest finding...

Yep, I can't get them here in Colorado. Two stores have now told me they are banned. Not sure exactly why though. One store told me someone was using them to make drugs, another said they had been found "bad for your health" by the US. Ridiculous.

yep, they are banned here in Florida too. First, wheat flour and now curry leaves..are they planning to starve us?
Isn't here an indian lobby to stop such kind of bans?

No one seems to be caring about the actual reason behind banning such things.

I would rather not eat pest infected curry leaves.

Pest found in curry leaves halts shipments

Cecilia Parsons
Capital Press

All shipments of curry leaves into California from Hawaii were suspended today after confirmation of the presence of live Asian citrus psyllids in a shipment inspected Thursday in Los Angeles.

Curry leaves were under a federal quarantine order since citrus psyllids were found last year in a shipment intercepted in San Francisco.

Ted Batkin of the Citrus Research Board said all shipments were to be fumigated before shipment to kill the citrus psyllid, an invasive pest that carries citrus greening disease. Both the pest and the disease are present in Florida. Citrus greening is known as the most destructive disease in citrus.

Batkin said he did not know why the fumigation process did not work and said that until that is determined, both the California Department of Food and Agriculture and the USDA have agreed that shipments will be halted.

He said at this time that 40-50 shipments of curry leaves, used in Indian cuisine, arrive in California from Hawaii each week. He said this shipment had a large number of both male and female citrus psyllids among the curry leaves, which come from a plant that is in the same botanical family as lemons and oranges.

Steve Lyle, CDFA spokesman said the shipment was found by Los Angeles County agricultural inspectors on Thursday at a Los Angeles airport. All shipments of curry leaves have been suspended until further notice

I have been surfing online more than three hours as of late, yet I by no means found any attention-grabbing article
like yours. It is beautiful worth enough for me. In my opinion,
if all site owners and bloggers made just right content material as you did, the internet might be a lot more useful than ever before.
